Create a Sanctuary...

Life keeps changing so fast and it's hard to keep up. Do we even have to keep up? After having so much time to really STOP, for those not on the frontlines, kickstarting our worlds is a challenge for everyone. We need to nurture ourselves and ease back into the land of the living on our terms.

I realised that having so much time to stop, think, reflect, clean, organise, connect with myself and my family was welcoming as we had no other choice with Covid. But there were moments that were rather exhausting too. Ironic isn't it. Although I did stop and chill, I also got so much stuff done because I had time. Setting up some daily routines helped me (and my family) to stay on track while still having time for spontaneity.

I enjoyed how families were forced to be together, eat together, play together, home school together and even have conflict together that you HAD to work through and come out the other side (because the alternative wasn't an option!). I bet a lot of families are closer than ever because getting uncomfortable with each other and navigating our way out of that shows progress and moves our relationships forward. I think we're moving forward for the better. I think we're all going to be more mindful and purposeful and the benefits will be so obvious.

Now the kids are back at school, sport is starting and an element of structure and 'normal' is returning. I'm continued my carpools to make things easier and give myself more time. I'm committed to doing a yoga or pilates class every day I can so I can get back to 'me'. The 'me' got a bit lost but having my daily workout time helped me stay sane. My local gym (Chocolate Box) jumped into the online world of fitness fast and seamlessly - I'm a true die-hard and LOVE this new platform. I can do classes anytime that suit me and I really look forward to it. (Wanna try it? Check out their website and you can get the first week FREE!). You know that to change your state of mind, exercise and moving is KEY!

I've created a wonderful space in my bedroom that is my sanctuary complete with yoga blocks, bolsters, mat, eye pillow and water bottle! I also have more bubble baths. I read more and give myself time to enjoy a cup of tea (before it gets cold). I'm doing puzzles and baking sourdough bread (something quite a few of us seem to be doing!) and love creating. You must do more of the stuff that fuels you.

So although life is ramping up again, don't buy into the chaos and find your calm inner peace... you and your family will be so much better off. You can be the solid base that your family needs but make sure you fill up your tank first doing all those things you love to do. Here's to LOTS of self-love! Namaste. x
